If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.3, it is not necessary to update the firmware. I bought the unit in Dubai but live in Saudi Arabia this means I have to somehow send it back and get it back from the agent without a guarantee I will get a 'good' camera. I swapped the sensor and there was no change. I figured it was not getting anything from the meter sensor so I bought a prism assembly that had the meter sensor. Shooting with Canon or non-Canon lenses or without a lens at all, shooting with hi-speed (Sandisk Extreme IV) cards, or without any card at all,in any mode (P, AV, TV M, etc) yields the SAME result. I had a Canon 7D Mk II that came in with the meter not giving any readings that changed. I updated the firmware and the issue is now ERR 50 but the frequency is STILL the same. I cannot fire hi-speed multi shots every time the camera grinds to a halt with ERR 99 issue. I Bought a D 50 a little over a month ago and have had ERR 99 issues right from the start. The D 350 has never given me ANY problems. This phenomenon only occurs when the firmware was updated from Version 1.0.5 or earlier to Version 1.1.1. I still several Canon EOS film bodies, and a Canon D 350 (Rebel XT). Firmware Version 1.1.2 incorporates the following fix: Corrects the phenomenon in which remote shooting with the Camera Connect App is not possible after connecting the EOS 7D Mark II to a smartphone via the Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1.
